Complex Problem Solving Beyond the Initial Scope

In 2019, I was brought in to support a complex problem-solving case at one of Audi Hungaria’s engine plants. My role was not based on engine technology expertise, but on problem-solving methodology.

The Challenge

Audi Hungaria was facing a complex technical problem at one of its engine factories (production: 2 milion per year). Although I was not an expert in engine technology, I was asked to support the team because of my experience in structured problem solving.

My Approach

I used Six Sigma and Design of Experiments to help the team explore new approaches to the problem and new methods of solution.

Rather than restricting the investigation to the aspects initially considered, I helped broaden the analysis to include potentially critical factors that had initially been outside the focus.

What Changed

The value of the intervention was not simply the application of a problem-solving toolbox. It was the ability to help the team look at the problem differently and consider approaches that had not previously been explored.
